Grease Interceptors and Traps have come into existence for water conservation, recycling, and Drainage management. They are the saviours of nature and water protectors. Today it has become of utmost importance for restaurants and hotels to have a Grease Trap installed in their kitchens for reducing the recycling opportunity of wastewater and cleaner sewage systems.

The parts of a basic Grease Interceptor are:

  1. Inlet

  2. Receptacle

  3. Removable Lid

  4. Outlet

Now the parts in a Grease Interceptor have a role to play at various points of the process. Firstly, the water from the sink/dishwasher drain goes in the inlet and lands in the grease receptacle via it. After wastewater gets inside, the solid waste settles at the bottom while the oils, fats and grease stay afloat on the surface. The main component, water, stays in between the solids and other waste (Oils and Fats), which is then forced out from the outlet as and when more wastewater is delivered in the receptacle through the inlet.

Only getting a Grease Interceptor at your facility doesn’t serve optimum efficiency of it. Here are some other elements that should enter the place to ensure proper disposal of waste and used water.

  1. Bucket Traps: They are fixed for the prevention of large debris entering the system.

  2. Venting System: They have been settled for easy and efficient installation of Grease Interceptors.

  3. Back-flow protection fitting: By far, the most vital element is the back-flow protection fitting that protects your primary water supply system from wastewater.

  4. Hydraulic Plan: This element is installed for trade waste system, which can be installed after the local authorities approve the plan or the design.

There are two types of Grease Traps for installation.

  1. Above-ground: The placement of these interceptors depends on the size. The smaller ones are installed inside the kitchen and can hold limited capacity. In contrast, the big ones are installed outside the facility and have large receptacles. Also, there is a liberty to expand the Above-ground grease interceptors simply because of their placement. The receptacles are composed of different matters as a whole, like PVC, Metal, Fiberglass, etc.

  2. Below-ground: These grease interceptors are placed underground and usually are of higher capacities than Above-ground ones. A few facilities prefer the below-ground ones as they are hidden and provide a neat appearance of the place on the outside. The installation demands more effort than the above-ground ones, simply because they are heavy and are lifted to set in the spot by a heavy machine. The below-ground ones are made of concrete, metal, fibreglass and some are also made of PVC.

Grease Interceptors have been in the system for a century now. A need for responsible disposal of water persuaded the establishment of these interceptors and traps. The local authorities, too, require a business to take proper care of reliable clearance of water, and anyways it is your social and moral responsibility to do so.
